With VEO 3, Google presented a new video AI at its annual developer conference I/O. The model can create deceptively real videos – and thus carries a certain risk. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about the AI model.
Every year Google presents some innovations at its developer conference Google I/O. This year, among other things: the New video AI VEO 3. The model delivers videos in deceptively real quality and offers more control options than comparable video KIs. VEO 3 also supports the sound edition, which gives the system a significant lead over the competition.
VEO 3 from Google: What can the video AI do?
Google promises users of VEO 3 an “improved creative control”. With a combination of video and audio, the video AI is aimed primarily at filmmakers and storytellers. To underline this, Google has announced a cooperation with the American film director and screenwriter Darren Aronofsky at its developer conference I/O.
For example, the filmmaker has directed the film “Black Swan” and now produces several short films that also contain material from VEO 3. According to Google, the new video AI model focuses primarily on increasing realism.
Because VEO 3 can also output videos in 4K and integrate realistic audios. These include sound effects and ambient noises, but also realistic dialogues. In addition, the control options are said to have been significantly improved compared to previous models.
Accordingly, the new model “Prompts like never before” follows, which in turn should result in more precise answers. In addition, Google has published another tool. With Flow, creative clips from VEO 3 can edit and further refine. Even elements such as the camera position or the video section can be adjusted. Uploading your own video material is also possible.
Risks
Video AI models like VEO 3 open new options for filmmakers. But they also pose risks, such as the possibility of creating so-called Deepfakes-i.e. fake videos.
There are currently still small mistakes to discover in most videos, such as false eye movements or missing details. However, VEO 3 manages to adapt mouth movements almost perfectly to the sound output.
The video AI can also represent various emotions in both facial expressions and in the voice, As a demo video shows. The style for a video can in turn specify users, for example to imitate a film from a certain time.
However, this becomes problematic when AI tools like VEO 3 are used to create fake news. This can result in deceptively real clips that imitate news format, for example. Creating a supposed news speaker is also no problem for AI.
What does VEO 3 from Google cost?
A considerable computing effort is necessary to create the video sequences with VEO 3. For this reason, the video AI is not available free of charge. Initially, Google had only made the model available in the USA. VEO 3 is included in the most expensive Gemini subscription.
In the meantime, the AI is also available in Europe – for everyone who has one “Google Ai Pro” subscription Complete for 21.99 euros a month. However, this subscription includes some restrictions. Because there is a limit for VEO 3, so that users can create a maximum of ten videos per month.
If you want to use the video AI without a limit, you have to dig deeper into your pocket. Because this requires a “Google Ai Ultra” subscription that costs 274.99 euros per month.
