Battery vaguans work like a parking space for electricity. They are considered an important building block of the energy transition. However, their success depends on various factors.
Battery venues are currently experiencing a real boom. “Parking spaces for electricity” could also be called the container modules that collect excess wind and solar power and save them into the network if necessary.
Some already exist in Germany. For example in Bollingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein. Eco Stor 2024 has built the largest memory in Germany to date. Now the Norwegian energy company wants to fill an even larger area with the memory modules.
Battery rack: New parking space for electricity should be three times as powerful
The battery venom in Bollingstedt Has an output of 103.4 megawatts and a capacity of 238 megawatt hours. This means that the XXL battery is able to supply around 170,000 households in two hours. The new project is said to have an output of 300 megawatts. From 2028 it should be directly on the A81 Near Trossingen arise.
And even in the rest of Germany, new facilities are always sprouting out of the ground: in Baindt there is also a 20-megawatt system. A large battery recently started in Heiligenberg, which stores ten megawatts.
In the meantime, EnBW is building a new battery memory with 100 megawatts and 100 megawatt hours of capacity together with transmission system operator Transnet BW in Marbach, which could cover the daily requirement of around 12,500 households.
At the same time, the group in Phillipsburg is investing in a memory with 400 megawatts of power and 800 megawatt hours of capacity. Theoretically, that would be enough for 100,000 households a day. Further XXL projects are also planned in the rest of Germany.
This is how the energy stores support the energy transition
There are various reasons that the electricity parking spaces are currently so popular. Among other things, the upswing goes back to the sunken costs for lithium-ion batteries. In the meantime, they are up to 75 percent cheaper than ten years ago.
Political incentives also heat the construction of battery -saving stores. Because if you go online by the end of 2028, you are exempt from network charges for 20 years. Battery storage also react comparatively quickly. They compensate for short -term fluctuations on the power grid, which is not possible with classic power plants.
One of the biggest advantages is that the XXL batteries can help to make the irregularity of wind and sun current. They store excess wind and solar power, which in turn can then be fed into the network at other times.
This enables a higher proportion of renewable energies in the overall power network and reduce the dependence on fossil power plants. Your ecological footprint is also amortized after a few months.
Disadvantages of electricity parking spaces
In addition to all the advantages, there are also some challenges to solve the battery -saving savings stores. For example, they do not offer a solution for so -called “dark down”, so if there is little sun and wind at the same time. These phases can last over several days and have not yet been covered with battery storage.
Unclear strategies of how the electricity parking spaces should contribute to network stability and delayed approval procedures are also often in the way of the connection. Without central planning, nationwide overviews and funding programs are also missing. The location of the systems is also not yet sufficiently organized.
According to media reports, the environmental association BUND sees the XXL batteries as a great opportunity for the quick implementation of the energy transition. They secure the supply of renewable electricity, make the network more flexible and help to lower emissions. Now a clear strategy is needed to implement all planned projects and fully exploit their potential.

As a tech industry expert, I am excited about the potential for battery storage to revolutionize the way we think about renewable energy. Parking for electricity, or using batteries to store excess energy generated from renewable sources like solar or wind power, is a game-changer in the fight against climate change.
Battery storage allows us to capture and store renewable energy when it is abundant and cheap, and then use it when demand is high or when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. This not only helps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels but also creates a more reliable and resilient energy grid.
Battery storage also has the potential to unlock new opportunities for innovation in the tech industry, such as developing smart grid technologies and energy management systems that optimize the use of stored energy. Additionally, as battery technology continues to improve and become more affordable, we can expect to see even greater adoption of renewable energy sources and a further reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Overall, I believe that parking for electricity through battery storage is a key component of a sustainable energy future and one that will continue to drive innovation and progress in the tech industry.
