The Swiss Post now delivers packages by robot. However, they should not replace deliverers, but should support them.
Imagine you open the front door and there is no postman in front of you, but an autonomous robot with a package. What sounds like future music is already a reality in Regensdorf near Zurich. Because as part of a joint project, the Swiss Post, the online supermarket Migros Online and the robot company RIVR Autonomous robot will test the packages directly to the front door.
The aim is not to replace human deliverers. Instead, technology should improve efficiency and, above all, reduce the physical stress of employees. The usual logistics processes would also not be disturbed. In order to guarantee security, the entire delivery process is monitored.
Robots deliver packages in Switzerland
The focus of the field test is an autonomous delivery platform from RIVR that works with so -called physical AI. This combination of adaptive intelligence and mobile robotics was specially developed for use in the real world.
In contrast to conventional delivery robots, RIVR’s systems are designed for “front door precision”. They should be able to navigate in complex neighborhoods to bring goods directly to the residents. At the same time, the ecological footprint is minimal.
