A car is generally a commodity and not an investment. Nevertheless, for most buyers it is of course important that it runs for as long as possible. In this ranking, we clarify which car brands produce the most durable vehicles.
Cars should be fast, offer good comfort and also look good. But one of the most important quality features when purchasing a vehicle is durability to delay unexpected repairs or even scrapping. And in this respect there are very big differences between car brands. That’s why we want to clarify which manufacturers build the cars with the longest running time.

A current study of the platform ISeeCars provides surprisingly clear results with regard to the longevity of vehicles from specific car brands. Based on data from over 174 million vehicles, it was analyzed which manufacturers offer the highest probability of their cars achieving a mileage of 250,000 miles (around 402,000 kilometers).
Not surprisingly, companies from Japan in particular are at the top of this list. In fact, only manufacturers from the Land of the Rising Sun manage to exceed the industry average of 4.8 percent. German car brands are actually considered reliable, but perform significantly worse.
As the best German representative, Mercedes made it to 18th place and thus just in the middle of the field. Porsche (24th place), BMW (26th), Volkswagen (27th) and Audi (28th) all end up in the lower ranks. Only Land Rover, Jaguar, Mini and Maserati are behind – not a single car of these four companies makes it to 250,000 miles. We reveal which manufacturers produce the most vehicles under this brand in the following gallery.
10th place: RAM
The US brand RAM lands in tenth place with a probability of 3.5 percentthat a vehicle can last 250,000 miles. The manufacturer, which is best known for its robust pick-up trucks, is below the industry average of 4.8 percent, but still secures a place in the top ten.
