Compared to Fairphone, however, sustainability and repairability play a subordinate role. Instead, the focus is on a low price.
3. HMD
HMD Global is a Finnish company based in Espoo, which became known primarily through the new edition of the Nokia cell phones. Since 2016, the manufacturer has been producing devices under the brand names Nokia Android smartphones and feature phones. The focus is on durable and affordable devices with regular software support. The smartphones are characterized by a slim and relatively classic design. Since 2023, the company has also been developing its own smartphones under the name HMD and relies on European manufacturing and modular repairability.
4. Shift
Shift is a German smartphone manufacturer who attaches great importance to social responsibility and technical modularity. Similar to the fairphones, the so -called shift phones are designed in such a way that users can repair them themselves. The company offers numerous spare parts for this. Shift produces in China, but promises fair working conditions and wages. The company waives aggressive advertising and does not strive for private profit maximization. Technically, the shift phones move in the solid mid -range area.
