Potential for abuse
Another risk is potential abuse. Security mechanisms can be avoided with freely available weights. An example is the creation of problematic content. Therefore, responsible use is crucial. Ethical guidelines and clever license models could be a possible approach.
The Llama from Meta is based on open weights, for example, which are limited by a license. The Mistral AI models are also freely usable, sometimes even with an Apache 2.0 license. Falcon’s artificial intelligence 40b even discloses weights, code and partly data. This shows that there are different transparency levels of transparency.
Open Weight models open access to powerful AI. At the same time, companies prevent the risk of demonstrating a complete openness. They offer a pragmatic bridge between control and collaboration.
