US car manufacturer Lucid Motors has broken a new electric car record that made it into Guinness Book of Records. An electric car from the manufacturer was able to cover 1,205 kilometers with just one load.
When it comes to electromobility, critics usually criticize the reach of electric cars. But a lot has happened in this area in the past ten years. While electric cars were able to cover just a few hundred kilometers at the time, the manufacturers consistently further developed their models in order to achieve higher ranges.
There was even a real range competition. In June 2025, the Mercedes EQs cracked a remarkable record with a covered route of 1,045 kilometers without charging. But only a month later this record was powdered.
E-car record: from Switzerland to Munich
The new crown got US carmaker Lucid Motors. The company already offers electric cars, but is rarely represented on the German market. According to current data, only 600 LUCID vehicles were approved in Germany in April 2025. But that could change with the new record soon.
Because the Lucid Air Grand Touring recently took place. This started in St. Moritz in Switzerland, took its way across Austria and ended in Munich. The vehicle also overcame some alpine gradients. From the start (1,800 meters) over Lake Constance (400 meters), the Arlberg tunnel (1,200 meters) to Munich (500 meters), we went up and down a few times.
Electric cars are in no way inferior to conventional drives
The organization Guinness World Records has already confirmed the new record. It is 1,205 kilometers. That is much more than promised on paper. Because Lucid Motors specifies a maximum range of 960 kilometers for the Air Grand Touring. One reason is probably the professional driver Umit Sabanci, who was trying.
Nevertheless, it should be a marketing stunt. Because in everyday life, reach appears rather unrealistic beyond the 1,000 kilometers. Because systems such as the on -board computer or the air conditioning of a vehicle have the number of kilometers tumbled. Since the charging infrastructure is now quite well developed, such a high range should not be of great interest anyway.
Nevertheless, electric cars in terms of range and functionality no longer have to hide from burners these days. New models achieve ever higher ranges and are likely to take the so-called range of reach for the last two-folds.
