Despite high fuel prices and increasing environmental awareness among the population, there are still car manufacturers that rely on pure performance. In our ranking we show which models currently have the highest consumption.
The automotive industry is clearly moving towards electromobility and efficiency. But despite these trends, there is still a market for cars that are designed to deliver performance without regard to fuel consumption. So-called “gas guzzlers” are the nightmare of all environmentalists and savers. We reveal in the gallery which models will most often be hanging at the gas pump in 2025.
Efficiency is a foreign word for these cars
A current list based on official data from Natural Resources Canada (via The Car Guide) reveals which models currently have the highest consumption. However, extreme sports cars from manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini as well as ultra-luxurious models from companies such as Rolls-Royce were deliberately excluded. Instead, the focus is on powerful but commercially available vehicles.
As expected, the list is dominated by large-displacement V8 engines, which are often additionally fueled by compressors or turbochargers. Heavy, powerful SUVs and pick-up trucks in particular are at the top of the rankings. The strong presence of German premium manufacturers is striking: Mercedes-Benz and BMW alone are represented in the top ten with a total of five models.
To illustrate: With an annual mileage of 20,000 kilometers, the vehicles represented here can easily incur fuel costs of between 6,000 and almost 7,500 euros. Below we present the ten cars with the highest fuel consumption at the moment.
10th place: GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X
The top ten of the thirstiest cars is opened by the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, which has a combined consumption of 16.0L/100km comes. The huge pickup truck with the 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine is best known for its off-road capabilities.

As a Tech Industry expert, I am concerned about the environmental impact of cars with high fuel consumption. These vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which are major contributors to climate change. In an age where sustainability and efficiency are prioritized, it is important for car manufacturers to focus on developing more fuel-efficient vehicles and alternative fuel options.
Additionally, high fuel consumption can also lead to higher operating costs for consumers, as they will need to spend more on gasoline or other fuels. This can be a burden on individuals and families, especially as fuel prices continue to fluctuate.
Overall, it is crucial for the automotive industry to prioritize fuel efficiency and sustainability in their designs and technologies. This will not only benefit the environment, but also consumers and the overall economy in the long run.
